Multispectral Imaging for Art:

The above article details an initiative from Cultural Heritage Science Open Source which seems incredibly innovative.  The proposal is to create a multispectral imaging system for painting analysis which is non-invasive, and will be low cost and affordable to conservators across the field.  Non-invasive analysis is clearly preferable, if technology allows it, over traditional sampling, and is already mandatory in many situations.  This open source, crowd funded system would enable conservators transnationally to have access to this kind of detailed analysis, which gives a deeper understanding of materials used in the construction of the art work, therefore aiding both understanding of the objects, and decision making in treatment methods.
